SPIRITUAL EDUCATION

If there’s one factor that strongly distinguishes the Bhaktivedanta Swami Mission School from other schools, it is SPIRITUAL EDUCATION.

“gurur na sa syat sva-jano na sa syat
pita na sa syaj-janani na sa syat
daivam na tat syan na patis ca sa syan
na mocayed yah samupeta mrtyum”

              -Srimad Bhagavatam

Translation

One who cannot deliver his dependents from the path of repeated birth and death should never become a spiritual master, a father, a husband, a mother or a worshippable demigod

Based on the above instructions of Lord Rishabhdev, Srila Prabhupada started “gurukulas” all over the world, the most notable ones at Mayapur and Vrindavan. He wanted to educate children in the Vedic Culture from a very early age in the traditional way of the ancient times.

“athato brahma jignasa”

Now having acquired the human form of life let us enquire into the purpose of life.

With the above aphorism of the Brahma Sutra forming the foundation of spiritual education at our school, we attempt a balance between modern and spiritual education.

At our school, Vedic education impermeates every activity. The day begins with prayers to Lord Jagannatha Lord Baladeva Subhadra Maiyya and Srila Prabhupada, followed by the chanting of slokas and japa of the Hare Krishna Mahamantra

Breakfast and lunch are duly offered to the deities are served to the children

Each class has in its syllabus, a subject, namely – Vedic History and Culture in which, students learn the teachings from the Bhagavad Gita As it is and the Srimad Bhagavatam through stories and anecdotes. As students leave for the day they chant prayers to Lord Narsimhadev for protection.

All cultural events celebrated with pomp and splendour are entirely based on the activities of Lord Krishna and His incarnations.

In addition to students’ spiritual education, parents also get an opportunity for spiritual awareness and growth through the special Bhagavad Gita classes and seminars organised for them.

At the Bhaktivedanta Swami Mission School we strive to imbibe in the students the motto – ‘athato brahma jignasa’ so that they may live each moment of their life in understanding and achieving the true purpose of life – self realisation.
